Earlier this week in our midweek Bible study we learned about the flood, Noah and the ark. What did you learn from this lesson?
• We learned that God was unhappy with what was happening here on earth;
• We learn that God had Noah build an ark;
• We learned that God told Noah to take his family to the cannibals one male one female into the ark;
• We learn that God made it rain for 40 days and 40 nights;
• We learned because of this rain it completely cleared the earth of all living things;
• At the end of the story we learn that God made a covenant with Noah that he would never cause another flood to end earth.
Now, let’s fast-forward to today. Let’s look at the flood, Noah and the ark, as if it was going to happen today!
So, the first thing we would have to look at, is what would God see or better yet what does God see when he looks down upon the earth today? Obviously, he will see a river no correction you’ll see a large body of sin.
We all know Romans 3:23:
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
There is so much sin today compared to Noah and the ark time. Think about a different second, we did have temptations like cell phones televisions radio just to name a few.
So, the question begs to be answered, if this is the historical event was to take place again today, who would replace Noah and who would make choice of what living creatures go into the ark? Would it be you or you or maybe you? Which one of you feels like their relationship with God has earned them a place in the ark?
We know from the end of the midweek Bible study story that God made a covenant with Noah that said he would never flood the earth to that extreme again. We also know that Scripture tells us that certain things must take place before God will return.
The book of Matthew, specifically chapter 24:4-44, list things that must happen prior to God return. Now as we look to this list, we will see some of the things have already happened doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen again.
It says were going to have wars and we’ve had several of them. It says were going to have nation rising against nation kingdom rising against kingdom we still see this happening today. We are going to have famines and earthquakes. There are going to be false prophets and people deceived by these prophets.
Then it goes on to tell us that people’s love of God will start to decrease. That is happening today. Less than 25% of people have a church home. The we go on to read the gospel being preached in the whole world. This is a battle that are missionaries fight day-to-day and we still have a long way to go to get there.
The major question here is not when it will happen but are you ready for it to happen because when it does happen it judgment day. Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior? If not, now might be a good time to think about. If you have, are you living up to God’s potential as he would like you to? If not, the now might be a good time to turn over a new leaf.
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:51–52
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
2 Thessalonians 2:1–4
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there comes a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
We do not know the day or the hour that the end will come but Paul tells us in:
2 Timothy 3:1-4
“There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
The end times basically hinge on the return of Jesus Christ and His judgment of humanity and the world. Therefore, knowing him is the most important thing to understand about the end times.
So which ones of you will be Noah, who will build the Ark, who of you will be on the ark? Who of you will not be on the ark or better yet who of you really don’t care?
