Remember last week what God told Adam & Eve to do? This week we are going to tell the story of the creation of man and woman and their relationship with the world and to each other and to God. Genesis 1:26 – 2:25.The heavens, earth, and all the creatures within were created. God then says let’s make man in my image. Man will have authority over all the earth. (Genesis 1:26)
Scriptures says God says be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth. You have authority over everything here on earth. (Genesis 1:27 -1:31)
God is known to take a day of rest not to signal that he was tired but to set a point in time that he was done with creation. The heavens and the earth were finished. (Genesis 2:1-3).
God took some dust from the ground and with it He formed a perfect body, a man’s body. With a quick action, Adam came to life. Man was made in the image of God. (Genesis 2:7)
God then created a garden in Eden where he put Adam. The garden had everything that Adam would needs. This included the tree of life, and the tree of knowledge. Adam was told he could eat of any tree but the tree of knowledge as he would surely die if he ate from that tree. (Genesis 2:8-17)
Adam was brought every living creature on earth trying to find a suitable mate. At the same time Adam was naming each creature. God says that it was not good that Adam be alone as there was no suitable mate for him on earth. (Genesis 2:18-20)
Adam was forced into a deep sleep. While he was sleeping, God took one of his ribs and made a woman. The woman was brought to Adam who says she will be called woman because she is now bones of my bones, flesh of my flesh. (Genesis 2:21-25)
With the creation of Man and Female, he also created marriage. Marriage the unity of a man and a woman.
We also must consider that man was made different from the living creatures on earth. Man was created with the ability to reason, communicate and make decisions knowing the right ones from the wrong ones.
Although God is the highest authority, he does delegate some authority. Here on earth God delicates the authority to man therefore we rule over the earth and all creatures in it.
Now God gave man two commandments. The first being to love your Lord with all your heart and no one else shall be loved as much. The second was to love your neighbor. God also told Adam and Eve that we are to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.
According to scriptures, this was all completed on the sixth day. There are some that believe this is not true but consider that God created the world and completed in six days and the world was not complete without Man.
This leaves the following questions:
What do we learn about God in this story?
What do we learn about man/ourselves in this story?
What new did we learn?
What changes do we need to make?
