Obstacles by Crossing Barriers Ministry

What is holding you back? Drugs? Alcohol? Medication or medical process? Lack of housing or resources? We all have things that hold us back including myself.  If we can be honest and answer these questions, then we might also be able to answer what it is that’s holding us back from living the life God wants us to live.To Listen to the Complete Message, Click HERE

I know what it feels like to be stuck in the same rut and not be able to get out. However, I have learned and want you to learn that God is there to help us out of the rut we find ourselves in. Philippians 2:13

Whatever your struggles are today, I want you to picture yourself in a big hole with no way to get out. You are physically stuck.  But for every situation you are stuck, there are five underlying reasons that God can help you with. If you are not careful, these underlying factors will take over and hold you captive.

I have an avid fear of heights like you will not believe. I get light headed from watching a movie and see the scene where they show the top of a building looking down.

Fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. A fear of dentist may result in having bad teeth or no teeth at all.

Fear can be like crazy glue, it can hold you in limbo for a long time. They say everybody has at least one fear. The major problem is that most people won’t admit their fears let alone trying and get help or attempt to overcome them. We do know that God gave us:    2 Timothy 1:7

So, we have this fear, how do we overcome this obstacle? There are three steps you take:

The very first thing you need to do is to realize the fear and be willing to admit it. It like any other addition, you can’t help yourself till you admit you have a problem.  Now if you have several fears, you only want to tackle one at a time.

Now you have admitted what your fear (s) are and picked one that you like to release from. You need to understand the fear, but you also need to understand how it is controlling you as well.  If you are afraid of heights and you want to get a roofing job, I see a minor issue here.

Now comes action time. You need to put that fear in the hands of God and ask him for help to be free of this fear and to remain free of this fear.  But God doesn’t do all the work, you will need to find simple steps you can take towards releasing the fear. You could start by standing on a second-floor balcony today or on the lower branches of a tree.

Need a starting point or maybe a clue to the next step, ask God. He is great at revealing clues and He will be with you every step of the way.

This is my biggest obstacle and my wife will tell you so. We all tend to procrastinate at one time or another. I am sure we all have procrastinated at one time or other and had various reasons for doing so.  Maybe you are procrastinating going to get that piece of identification you need so you can start looking for work.

The action of delaying or postponing something is how procrastination is defined. There are many reasons for this and yes fear may be one of them or you are not sure what to do or you are embarrassed are just a few of the many reasons.

However, God tells us that we must overcome the temptation to procrastinate.          James 1:23-25

So, to stop procrastination may be as simple as just get up and doing it but if the obstacle has a major hold on you, you may want to try these three steps:

  • Admit
  • Ask
  • Action

You must stop making excuses if you want to stop procrastinating. You must own the struggle before you can beat it.

You own the struggle and you really want to beat it but you can’t always do it on your own. Sometimes you need to ask for help. Go to the Lord with your struggle and have him remove overwhelming feelings or to give you wisdom and clarity of the first steps over the hurdle. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone else and both of you pray to God.

So many times, we over think everything we must do and that causes us to procrastinate. Sometimes we just need to get that first step going and realize that it’s easier to take it step by step. Focus on your conversations with God and things will look a lot easier to getting completed. I make myself a short list of things that need to get done each day and find it’s easier to get accomplished knowing I have some free time. Philippians 4:13
