Jesus brought his disciples here to the region of Caesarea. This is a town on Israel’s Mediterranean Coast. (Vs. 13a)

Jesus then asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied that some refer to John the Baptist, others say Elijah, while others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Then Jesus asked Simon Peter who answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God”. (Vs. 13b-16)

Jesus blessed Simon Peter who is the son of Jonah. Jesus also says that the answer to who is the Son of Man was revealed to Simon peter not by flesh and blood but from Jesus’ Father in heaven. (Vs. 17)

The information revealed by Simon was part of the prophesy. Jesus instructed the disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Messiah.  He then explained to them that He was going to Jerusalem where He would be put to death.  Then He explained to them those that wanted to continue and what they must do.  (Vs. 18-28)
